It doesn't matter which way the stone pillar is oriented--R will refuse to step onto it from a standard block, stone or metal. Although R will happily step onto metal pillars in this same configuration. R is weird. R can be forced to step onto a stone pillar if you situate a single stair going downwards into it, although B still won't be able to walk through such a complex setup. Hopefully this will open up a lot more ideas for the uninitiated.
Nice attention to details Also I have noticed that R can walk from a 90-degree staircase to a flat block right next to it, while B would refuse to as if it could only walk in the direction of the staircase.
