The Goonies 1985

Absolutely zero game play. Regard this as a demo card. This operates mainly in the “white space” where bot behaviors don’t lend well to controllable play design. As this developed I couldn’t help but be drawn to hilarious memories of the classic 1985 movie… The GOONIES

      This operates mainly in the “white space” where bot behaviors don’t lend well to controllable play design.
      The design that came about while exploring with a method I call tethering.
      Tethering I would define as “anchoring a moving object to a point while allowing contained travel”.

      As this developed I couldn’t help but be drawn to hilarious memories of the classic 1985 movie…
      The GOONIES

      This is a scene near the end of the movie where…
      Chunk and Sloth slide down the sail of “One-Eyed Willy’s” Pirate Ship to help rescue the Goonies just before they are forced to walk-the-plank by the Fratelli Gang.

      As always GREAT:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:!!! You are doing absolutely impossible things for mekorama! Large ship (which is larger than the 16:16:16 grid). In addition, he also swims beyond all the boundaries of mekorama, somewhere in my dreams:rolleyes:! For a few minutes I enjoyed how your beautiful sailing ship sails!! Of course 5 from me!
      I also did a level with a sailing ship. At my level I made a lot of references to other people's levels with ships. I will now with great pleasure add a link to your level. Thank you!!!;)

      P.S. Surprisingly, I have not seen this film. Will have to look

      WoW!! So exciting... "The Goonies" is my favourite movie of my childhood :)... Excellent design, the gameplay does not matter... thanks for sharing @97 NinetySeven ;)

      Thanks @Denis Nazin. I remember your ship level and a couple others as well.

      I have a few levels with the “tethering” effect. I’m trying to add some unusual game play but, that needs to be reliable, repeatable and stable.

      Fantastic design. I'm still racking my brain to figure out how it works. I'm intrigued by the long fold out arm. There appears to be the infamous metal through metal but it stops and doesn't pass completely through. Does the ship move under it's own power or is it dragged around by the long arm?

      Thanks @MekoMole there are elements of both pass through metal and stopping pass through metal. Pass through is well known. Stopping pass through (at strategic locations) can create great effects as well.
      If you look at the masts you’ll see motors at the top and nearer the bottom; these motors have draggable pillars attached. The draggables (attached to motors) do two things…
      1. Allows this portion of the design to retain “movement” (if it was just a metal pillar, the movement of the entire portion would freeze in place from the start)
      2. It stops metal pass through because it is viewed as a separate entity and then collides with and stops movement
      - The two ship halves stop when they come together due to the same draggable pillar on a motor effect

      The ship is moving on its own with hidden wheels.

      As for the long fold out arm, it is a form of pass through, but with two motors mounted back-to-back. They essentially (or almost completely) cancel each others rotation force (one motor spindle rotates clockwise the other counterclockwise) that leaves them free to react to other forces - this is part of the “Tethering” effect I’ve been developing, studying and working with lately.
      **Update**
      I have found that the size of the “build” item also influences the amount of force that the tether motors generate… the larger (more blocks used) the lower the motor force. I tried to downsize a build and the tether motors pull began to increase.

      Tthanks @97 NinetySeven for such a comprehensive reply. This is all very interesting and exciting stuff, especially the tethering. Your explanation of how to stop metal through metal will be invaluable as, to date, it has been the bane of my life. I'll be following your progress avidly.
