It is a nice logic level perhaps little bit complex because red herring area but very cool... it remembered me the great serie Hole in Wall by @Liam.

Right. I also got the designed solution, i.e. by using the ball.

It is not too difficult to shove R into the hole from which the magician subsequently ascends. After a few seconds, R ascended on top of the magician. R stepped off and the magician floated to the win. This solution looked so logical that I initially thought it was the designed solution, until I saw the other comments.
