MekoMole

Mars Rover

Drive the Mars Rover around the Red Planet. Action in White Space but no other tricks. Slow moving action at first, patience and skill required, but there is a shorter route to the win block if stars are sacrificed. Some built in traps.

In an event reminiscent of Arthur C Clarke's monollths on the Moon, NASA has discovered a set of granite like objects embedded on the surface of Mars. They form the numbers 8 and Zero. A lander is dispatched to investigate but the mission is plagued by technical problems. The sensors on the feet of the lander malfunction so you, Mission Controller, must manually unlatch the Mars Rover and drop it to the surface. The steering on the Rover malfunctions and, in an act of inspired ingenuity, you use B to steer the Rover by placing him in the hook formed by the solar panels and tapping the surface behind the panel to force the Rover to turn. The legs on the lander can be extended outwards and by turning the Rover 180° two of the feet of the lander can be repaired. (Take the star.) The Rover then continues and disappears over the horizon, if steered skilfully, but can turn inwards and create problems if not careful.

The top section of the Lander can slide horizontally independent of the chassis and can be used to repair the sliding communications unit on the surface by knocking a free motor block on to it (to take the star and jolt the unit into life). The Cosmic version of thumping with a large hammer.

B uses the riser to the elevator bot platform to repair the third leg

To effect remaining repairs (Take stars), B must access the body of the lander by rising on an elevator bot and dismount after passing through the hatch. Note that the hatch will be out of position unleß moved back. A duplicate elevator bot has been provided in case of operator error.

Once on board the lander, B can drop on to the Mars Copter and repair it (Star). Riding on the repaired chopper B can move on to the last remaining lander leg and communicate success back to Earth by taking the win block. The win block can be taken without gaining all the stars.

And the solution of the mysterious number 80? Today is the Mole's 80th birthday and, to him, an event of Cosmic significance in that he's made it this far. Does this make him the oldest surviving Forum member?

A brilliant combination of storytelling and design. Love the details such as the solar panels on the Rover and it’s ingenious steering. Fun gameplay with the elevators. As to the Mole being the oldest, you have got nine years on me anyway.

Thank you @ridgerunner. I was a bit apprehensive about the steering so grateful for your endorsement. As to the Mole being the oldest you're still a wean.

Thank you @delator77 for playing, kind rating and birthday wishes. I suspect I won't be around to celebrate your 80th so I'll do it now. :D Long life and happiness my friend.

Yes, it's certainly a great stylization, and thanks for the detailed storyline. Great work – thank you so much for it!
It was interesting exploring Mars. I enjoyed it. Thanks for the win block, because I couldn't figure out how to get the Mars rover to follow the stars. I couldn't figure out how to redirect it. After watching the video, I was surprised
that it could be done with B
      .
      Thank you my friend ;)

I needed the help of the video for the steering as I couldn't understand it with the story. (my english is not that good:oops:) The steering was very clever. I also missed the no trick way for B to descend at 3:17 so I resorted to a trick. Good gameplay and of course good storyline. I enjoyed reading it though I needed a translator occasionally.

By the way, happy birthday. (I know it's a bit late). Wishing you health, happiness, and many more cherished moments with your loved ones. :)

@Denis Nazin Thank you for playing and kind comments. Recently I have found the process of publishing a level more difficult and didn't follow my usual practice of including other language translations. Apologies as this would possibly have alerted you to the steering method. I'm glad however that you got the win block.

.Thank you very much for such a kind review and rating. I also appreciated very much the birthday wishes. I am conscious that dialogue on the forum is very much English focussed and forget that sometimes a long description can create difficulties. Thank you for your perseverance, it's much appreciated.
